Classic bourbon taste since 1870. Uninterrupted by Prohibition.
In 1870, George Garvin Brown, a young pharmaceutical salesman in Louisville, Kentucky, saw the need for a whisky of consistent quality. Back then, whiskies were sold by the barrel, which often led to tampering by unscupulous rectifiers, jobbers and retailers.
George's solution: sell his bourbon exclusively in sealed glass bottles to ensure its premium quality and classic taste. Old Forester, America's First Bottled Bourbon, was born. He even included his handwritten pledge of quality in every bottle.
When Prohibition took effect in 1920, George was ready. Old Forester applied for and was granted a government license to continue distributing whisky for medicinal purposes - one of only six whiskies to receive this special dispensation.
