Abhainn Araig, translating to 'Araig River' in Scots Gaelic, pays homage to Islay's waters and celebrates Fèis Ìle 2022. This exceptional whisky has matured in ex-Bourbon and PX sherry octave casks, resulting in an unpeated, sherried, bold, and complex profile. It's a limited festival release, bottled at 50.8% ABV, with no artificial color or chill filtration.
The name originates from a river on Islay, Abhainn Araig, which flows into the Margadale River, the source of pure spring water for all Bunnahabhain whisky. This river is essential to the distillery's production process, providing cooling water for the condensers.
Hand-selected octave casks, crafted from specially seasoned European oak, push the boundaries of sherry maturation. Bunnahabhain, with its robust character, rises to the challenge. The whisky boasts tasting notes of chocolate, powdered ginger, cigar box, creamy milk chocolate, sweet raisins, dried raspberries, balsamic vinegar, honeyed macadamias, dark toffee, and a final spicy burst of cinnamon. It's an embodiment of Bunnahabhain's quintessential style and a testament to Islay's exceptional whisky heritage.
